Native plants invade discussion
This week's Saturday Stroll at Harris Shoals will feature Amanda Tedrow, an agriculture and natural resources agent for Athens-Clarke Cooperative Extension Services.

While walking with participants along the mile-or-so path around the park, Tedrow will point out invasive species that choke out native plants and their effect on native wildlife. Tedrow also will showcase some tools and strategies that work to eliminate the invasive interlopers before they spread further.
The hourlong walk is part of the stroll series organized by the Oconee Democrats. The 14-week series based at Harris Shoals Park takes place at 9 a.m. each Saturday through July 31. Participants pay $5 per person to join the group, with attendees age 18 and younger admitted free. People are asked to gather near the rocky shoals.
Fees generated by this stroll will benefit PLACE (Promoting Local Agriculture and Cultural Experiences), which helps to educate people of the importance of supporting farmers and buying locally grown products.
